This morning it's come out on the news that a government official had accidentally claimed money for some porn her husband viewed on tv.
At most, I find this pretty funny and embarrassing for her. It was tied into the normal bill for her internet/tv package which she is allowed to claim for and she's of course agreed that she would pay that portion back (less than $20).
But people actually thinking her job should be threatened over this? Too much. That's just punishing someone for watching porn. If he had been watching some normal movies on pay-per-view (which were also accidentally paid for and paid back) this would be a non-issue. Oh no, how DARE someone who is marginally in the public eye be involved in something so base as watching a skin flick! The horror.
This is coming from a country that has a naked chick on page three of a national "newspaper" everyday.
I know this would be totally blown out of proportion in America, where puritanism is in our bloods and heritage, but I thought Britain would be a bit more sensible.
Hello, the G20 summit is this week! Focus, people, focus! Especially you, David Cameron (Tory leader). I see what you're trying to do with tying this latest fiasco with Smith's "second home" scandal, but seriously we're talking about a little over £100,000 in the last twelve years (she's been an MP since 1997).
Gordon Brown must be laughing all the way to the opening ceremonies, and counting his votes up to the election, with Cameron being so easily distracted by twinkling bait.
Focus, people.
