So I know someone who occasionally complains about the daily grind, but she really shouldn't because there are occasional perks that should wholly make up for it.
Take for example yesterday. Her coworker she sees once in a while (they started the same day together) comes by her cube and the following conversation ensues:
"Hey... what are you doing this afternoon? Got meetings or anything?"
"Depends. What's up?"
"Well, I organized this team building thing for a bunch of global people but some of them are bailing so I got a couple of open slots and if you're free I was wondering if you would want to come with..."
"uhh..."
"... it's a wine tasting event."
"OK!"
So at 3:30 she goes to the front of the building with some of her other coworkers (some of whom you may know) and boards a Cloud 9 Shuttle with a bunch of Finnish people from Marketing.
She ends up at Orfila Vineyards in Escondido. Did you know there are vineyards in Escondido? What the heck. And it is serene and lovely:
The wine tasting itself is pretty fun. Two whites (a Chardonnay and aGewurztraminer) and two reds (a Sangiovese and a Syrah), with the typical cheese, crackers and fruit on the side:
The Gewurztraminer was her favorite and she ended up buying two bottles of it.
They then took a tour of the winery and got to see some cool behind-the-scenes action of the process of wine making:
The tour was followed by a buffet dinner with wonderful concoctions including some sort of beef stuffed with bacon.
You really can't go wrong with beef stuffed with bacon, folks. Or so she tells me. Dinner was accompanied with Merlot and completed with dessert and some Tawny Port, which she tells me was "fortified" with brandy. She definately felt the fortification on the ride back.
Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday afternoon.
Lucky biotch.
